Dr. Fred H. Besthorn is Associate Professor of Social Work at Wichita State University. He holds a Ph.D.in clinical social work and social welfare policy as well as a Master of Divinity in religious/theological studies.
Professor Besthorn has published extensively and spoken widely on the integration of Scandinavian philosopher Arne Naess’ concept of Deep Ecology. His research interests also include an emphasis on the interface of spirituality and religious traditions to the evolution of an eco-spiritually informed understanding of social and ecological justice.
He is the creator of
The Global Alliance for a Deep-Ecological Social Work (GADESW)
website whose aim is to provide a forum for social work and human service professionals sharing a commitment to incorporating deep ecological awareness into conventional social work practice.
